A friend of mine from church went on a Mediterranean cruise this past spring. When she got back, I literally sat listening to her for a solid 45 minutes, recounting her travels. I was enraptured. She is quite the bubbly sort of person, who replayed her adventures with such enthusiasm that it stirred up in me a sudden desire to go. Like now. She told me about Greece, Rome, Santorini, Ephesus, and more. Ephesus! As in Paul’s letter to the EPHESIANS! How awesome!
The one aspect of her trip that really got me thinking was this: she and a friend had decided long ago that they would take this trip together. Husband-free and kid-free, the two of them would for 20 days escape their day-to-day roles as wives and mothers and would do this trip. Now, I’m not at the point where I need a break from my regular life as a wife and mom. I love my life as a wife and mom. But I can totally see how in 10 years, or 15 years, or 20 years, I’d need it. And who better to go with than a dear girlfriend? There are tons of trips that I’d love to do as a family, many that I’d love to do just Kevin and I, and then there are a few that I’d love to do with a good friend or two, or three!
